Job Description / Profile:
The expatriate senior geophysicist will be working with a team of expatriates and Egyptian nationals within an extremely active business environment. This position is a resident status position in Cairo. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for identifying areas of maximum impact and produce high-quality maps that result in significant volumes of new drilling opportunities from proven oil and gas areas as well as extending existing plays or developing new play concepts across the region. The focus of this position is exploration growth through farm-ins, acquisitions, and or bid rounds in and around the greater Egypt region.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities:
· 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and mapping at the sub-regional to prospect scale in order to identify areas of maximum impact and produce high-quality maps for acreage assessment and for new drilling opportunities in proven oil and gas areas.
· Generate new prospects and evaluate risk and volume for drill-site maturation including operational support in the planning and execution of drilling the prospect.
· Participate in data room visits and generate quick turn-around evaluations of prospectivity giving technical recommendations for participation in new ventures or acreage extension opportunities beyond the existing client license areas.
· Provide recommendations for new seismic purchases, acquisition areas, processing projects, and liaising with technical experts in the corporate office providing various geophysical support for acquisition, processing, and quantitative geophysical interpretation.
· New Venture data integration from scouting, data rooms, and local knowledge
· Work within tight deadlines and shifting priorities in order to maximize results and winning new acreage positions.
· Coordinate and prepare Technical Committee Meetings with partners
· Engender trust and confidence among Egyptian technical colleagues, providing mentoring and assistance as needed.
Job Requirements
Candidate Requirements:
· At least fifteen years’ experience in geophysical interpretation and mapping, preferably with foundation from a major integrated oil company.
· Demonstrate a track record of successful interpretations that have led to discoveries.
· Experience working structurally complex, poor data quality areas.
· Previous experience working new ventures in Africa/Middle East preferred.
· Working experience with interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic. Ability to generate and interpret seismic attributes with experience in AVO for Pliocene-Oligocene evaluations.
· Produce significant volumes of interpretations within tight time frames including data rooms, and bid rounds with some travel required
· A high degree of self-motivation and professionalism in achieving high quality new acreage acquisitions leading to multiple drilling opportunities.
· Desire to work as a team player manifested by maturity and professionalism.
· Personal and professional ethics above reproach.
· Candidate will be fluent in English and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Candidate should be proficient in the following technical skill categories:
· 2D and 3D seismic interpretation with a focus on:
· Structural styles and working trap types
· Sequence stratigraphy and well log integration into mapping
· Fault seal analysis and fundamentals
· Risk & Reserves Probabilistic assessment techniques familiarity
· Familiarity with 3D visualization; volume based interpretation
· GIS applications familiarity
· Experience with Petrel as an interpretation tool is a plus as well as multiple interpretation packages (e.g. Petrel, Landmark, IESX/Charisma)
· PC applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
· Some experience working in a multi-cultural environment is desirable.
